Derek… - 'King of the Gloaming' for March 2008

I am very pleased to announce the most blogged member of Scotland in the Gloaming for the month of March 2008 is…

Derek…
- March's 'King of the Gloaming'.

Well done Derek. Thank you very much for your contribution to the outstanding standard of imagery that makes up the group pool.

I asked Derek to share a little of the background on his photography.

1. Below is his personal favourite gloaming photo which was featured on the blog in March.

"SIMPLIDHEACHD..."

2. Tell us a little about how you shot the photograph, the location, what particular aspects attracted you, anything special you did to get the shot and any comments about the Scotland In The Gloaming group.

Thanks Folks...
This is another shot of Loch Striven, near Dunoon, in Argyll, and yet another of the numerous lochs in this area which add to the natural beauty of this relatively undiscovered part of the world.
I'm lucky enough to enjoy a daily commute from Dunoon to Loch Eck, and due to my working hours I'm usually heading home just as the sun goes down...and in this area the views are constantly spectacular at that time of day.
I took this shot with my phone (as most of my shots are...) and therefore I have no choice but to keep things simple. I merely point and snap and let nature take the credit.
I've recently bought a Nikon D40, and after having used only my phone for a year to take shots, its taught me to continue to take the simple approach. Don't over complicate things, and don't think about it too much, and as I often do, return to your favorite place time and again as the views are ever changing.
Cheers,
Derek.

Thanks Derek. That shot is a nice example of the often intense and lucid sense of light and colour in your photos, not to mention the nod to the native tongue. Incredible how much mileage you get from the phone pics. The phonecameras often have their own tone and feel actually. Look forward to seeing your D40 snaps when you get a chance to have some fun with it too.

Keep up the good work.

Colin

A scan, taken in the Summer of 1994, possibly ! Very early too, about 3.30am, the only reason I could get up so early was due to being parked up in a camper van, with backup making the early morning cuppa !!
I remember listening to the wild geese and Curlew calling as I made this shot, I truly believed I was in heaven
Then the midges started. Oh Well.

Taken from Portencross. We arrived just in time for the snow clouds and setting sun to provide glorious dusky orange and red lighting. This soon changed to an uninspiring grey, so we retreated to the car to escape the biting wind.
